I care about conversations where someone forgets to sound impressive and starts sounding alive. The site is mostly a home for those conversations: scholars, writers, reporters, map-makers, translators, and other people who have spent years attending to something properly.

Away from interviews, I like ancient coins, old books, long walks and talks, chess, stamps, and sentences that reward rereading. My favourite book is Finnegans Wake.
